On Dec 28, The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi announced on his Twitter handle, “Supply ships transporting equipment to ‘Mother of All Rigs’ docked 230km off the Karachi coast for exploration of oil and gas arrived at KPT”. Offshore exploration of oil and gas by the American energy giant, Exxon-Mobil is a major breakthrough, as it may bring other international energy firms for investment in Pakistan’s energy sector. It is assumed, that if commercially viable discovery is made, Pakistan will be among the top 10 oil producing countries. Henceforth, domestic oil and gas production will increase and energy imports will decrease, resolving Pakistan’s economic problems.
